Pattern Play: Design from your Wardrobe, From Loft to World Market

May 23, 2013

I had such a fun time and wonderful response from readers from my last “Pattern Play” article that I decided to make it a permanent series on my blog.  This time I was inspired by this look put together by Ann Taylor LOFT.  Bold, yet tranquil, with a bit of personality, I turned to World Market to fulfill my desires to turn this blue creation into a beautiful bedroom.

As a base, begin by adding a light cream or antique white on the walls.  The Peacock Blue paint by Benjamin Moore would be perfect to highlight the bed and side tables as wide ribbons of color the width of each piece of furniture going from floor to ceiling.  The teal sun washed t-shirt is a direct link to the accent paint.  It also shows in the silk pillow on the bed, the over the bed artwork, and the metal scalloped accent table used in the bedroom seating area.  The painting also pulls in the somewhat ethnic and random colors used in the jewelry the fashion look boasts and keeps everything from going too cutesy.  The colored glass lantern that would be mounted over the metal table is also reminiscent of the necklaces and bracelets dawned by the model.  I know it’s a bit obvious why I choose the window treatment as it directly correlates with the bold blue floral of the pants.  They also pull in several colors from the room (dark blue, teal, white, & tan) making everything come together in one fabric.  I can’t help it, it makes me happy!  The floral pattern is also seen in the carved mirror frame that would be mounted over the dresser and the embroidered pillow on the chair.  That dark blue shows up again in the chairs upholstery this time in a solid form.  Now, on to the clutch (by the way, I really want it for myself).  Natural in its base with touches of yellow, it gives a relaxed feel to what could be an over-the-top feminine look.  The round jute rug, tiered bedside table for the left side of the bed, the upholstered bed itself, and the burlap lamp shade round out the natural elements in this bedroom.  I love how the colored buttons on the headboard bring personality this room deserves, just like the fashion baubles.  The floral yellow shams bring that touch of yellow from the small handbag to the room and that is again seen in the painting.  Down to the toes are those white and silver sandals.  Those silver touches are represented by the bedside lamps and the right bedside cabinet.  And, yes I did pick out two different bedside tables, just to keep it from getting to matchy-matchy.  The white shows again in the mirror frame and the white duvet that I would place on the bed under the colorful pillows.  I decided to keep the dresser simple in style with a dark finish to contrast from the light wall color.  I know it is small in one of the necklaces, but they do have some dark colored beads.  The dark wood is also seen in the chair and bed legs.

I hope you enjoy the look as much as I do and look for more Pattern Play articles in the future.
