Hangin’ with Design

November 14, 2013

Using nontraditional drapery hardware is a way to keep your design from becoming like everyone else’s.  Here are three examples of uncommon ways to hang your window treatments.

{WIRE}

Using wire to hang panels can give a great industrial look to even a glamorous space.  I used it in this living room with striped silk.  It gives a cool vibe to the room with stained concrete floors.  When I did this design, these products were not widely available, but I found a great example that can be purchased at Ikea here.

{TOWEL BAR}

For decorative installations, towel bars can be an interesting way to finish off a room.  I decided to use this solution with some grommeted drapery panels on a window that had a wide span.  The treatment was meant to be permanently open as the functional light control was coming from the blinds.

I saw this fantastic galvanized pipe rod on the Hi Sugarplum! blog where she gives step by step instructions on how to make one for yourself.  I think the final result is wonderful as you can see in the image of her breakfast room.

I would love to hear about what other nontraditional drapery hardware you have used.  Please share!
