{DIY} Golden Foliage Candleholder

November 26, 2013

After attending an Anthro Event that I wrote about here, I was inspired to find a way to use what I had learned at home.  My sister and I spent one afternoon die cutting loads of gold leaves that they later used in a hanging display.  As much as I loved the outcome that they put up in the store, I did not see the in-shop installation as a practical decoration in my home.

With my creative mind spinning, I went to my studio and started playing.  Surprisingly (well maybe not) I found everything I needed in my current supplies to make what I call my Golden Foliage Candleholder.

I found several sheets of these peel and stick chipboard leaves that I had purchased at a garage sale quite some time ago without packaging, so I am unsure of the company that makes them.  I did find these from Love Scrappin’ that would work great.

I then sprayed the chipboard sheet with Rust-Oleum Metallic Gold paint.

After drying, I sanded the gold off in a crisscross pattern, giving it texture.

The chipboard shapes were removed from the sheet.

It was easy to peel the backing off of mine, but it would be just as simple to use spray adhesive if your shapes are not self-sticking.

I had fun creating the pattern I wanted on a square vase, focusing on the bottom portion of the vessel.

An LED flameless candle gives a wonderful glow to my new Golden Foliage Candleholder that can be used for both Thanksgiving and Christmas.
