Pillows: Three Ways to Change the Look of Your Sofa

March 24, 2014

One Sofa Three Looks

It is no surprise that I have a love affair with pillows.  A visit from friends proved me right when their two young boys were going around the house counting the number of pillows I have.  There is something about the color and pattern from these cushions that provide versatility in any room.  I went to the Sher Lane Shops HomeGoods to show how a neutral leather sofa gets three looks by changing out the pillows.

This HomeGoods sofa is ready for three different looks with pillows

Standing alone, this sofa is beautiful with its buttery colored upholstery and nutmeg pillows.  It is the perfect seating piece because it can transition into several different looks, such as sprucing up for the spring season.

{Look 1} SPRING GREEN

{Look 1} Spring Green: Green and white pillows give a refreshing look to this cream sofa

By mixing different tones of green, this look is so refreshing.  It started with two 22” green and white floral medallion pillows by the arms, then two 18” olive quilted cushions, and finished off with a lumbar green and white geometric.  The difference in sizes adds interest while the mix of patterns and green tones keep it from being flat.

This look would just be perfect with this accent chair I found nearby.

This green and white accent chair from HomeGoods is so sweet.

{Look 2} NEUTRAL

{Look 2} Neutral: Texture and varying tones give interest to a neutral palette

When going for a neutral look, think texture and varying tones of tan, cream, beige, and white.  Burlap in a darker shade bordered with herringbone jute trim, linen lined with mother of pearl buttons and beads, and white burlap give interest to this neutral palette.

{Look 3} MIXING COLORS

{Look 3} Mixing Colors: A patterned pillow with multiple colors is the perfect starting point for this look

When mixing colors, it is always a good idea to find a patterned pillow with multiple colors and pull from there.  This beautiful lumbar pillow placed in the center was my starting off point for this look.  Solid red 22” pillows anchor the sides while yellow geometric and blue medallion pillows flank the inspiration cushion.  The patterns on these two compliment the busy inspiration fabric and make the transition from solid to multi-color easy on the eyes.

I have noticed you are collecting ideas for a bedroom on Pinterest. Pillows are such a wonderful way to refresh bedding without purchasing the whole shebang.
