Dream Accessory Closet | Painting

October 8, 2014

Several weeks ago I introduced a new blog series I was going to do creating a Dream Accessory Closet.  Well, as you can tell, I have not posted about this in a while.  It seems like every time I had slotted to work on this it was so blasted hot in the house, I just could not bear the thought of working physically.  There has been a long term heat wave in Southern California that is still here.  In OCTOBER!  With no air conditioning it has risen to over 100 degrees in the house.  I finally got to the point where I was getting up early in the morning to work on the closet walls and was totally drenched in sweat my the time I finished each step.  So, here is the first part of the actual work on the Dream Accessory Closet.

Dream Accessory Closet Painting

The last time you saw this closet it was a mess to say the least.  I took a whole afternoon on a weekend and went through each piece deciding if it needed to stay in my life or if it needed to be donated, gifted, or consigned.  It felt really good to pair down.

Dream Accessory ClosetAfter clearing out the closet, I patched all the holes (where in the world did they all come from?!!!)

Then I added two coats of Sherwin Williams Gray Screen.

This color is in several spaces in my house and I just love it.  It has a touch of blue that is lovely.

I had been toying with ideas of what decorative pattern I was going to place on the back wall, knowing all along I was going to do it in gold when a trip to Target proved to be the final inspiration I needed.

A plate there covered in gold arrows was just what I was looking for.

Now this is where I become a bad blogger in explaining how I did this.  I played around with how to lay it out on the wall and decided that dots with a pencil would be my best bet, then connect the dots with gold paint afterwards to create the arrows.

I made a temporary template with a paint stir stick and it took me quite a while to get them all in place.

Then it was a matter of painting in the arrows that did not take nearly as long as placing the dots.

And finally, the painting was done!

This pattern is just what I was looking for.  It adds a little funky glam while not being too overwhelming.

I am now on to working onto a storage/table piece that is from repurposed items that should be previewed on my next post for the Dream Accessory Closet.
